Architectural funding approved
Board approves $188,000 for Klar and Klar architectural planning
During the October 27 School Board meeting, the Board approved a $188,000 payment to Klar and Klar for the architectural plan for the new K–8, despite parents asking members to vote no. Families should continue pressing the Board to reconsider the campus plan and explain how public objections will affect its next decisions.
Verification: Organizer’s live account; official vote record and timestamp pending.
Construction concerns
COO reports February–July construction, with portables as a fallback
The district’s chief operating officer (COO) said the new construction timeline is February through July. If construction is not finished in time for the August school opening, the district would deploy portables. The district also said it must test for lead paint and asbestos during construction but did not explain how students attending the school during that work would be protected. Families need a public testing and safety plan for the older building.
Verification: Organizer’s live account; official recording timestamp and written schedule pending.
Enrollment estimate
Superintendent gives a lower K–8 enrollment estimate
During the vote discussion, Superintendent Hendrick gave an estimate of 700–800 students for the zoned K–8. The October recommendation lists 920. Ask the district to publish the assumptions behind both figures and explain what the lower enrollment means for the school.
The Board approved the campus changes for 2027–28 by 6–1. Lisa N. Cane voted no. Her motion to postpone the decision did not receive a second. Families can continue asking Board members to reopen discussion and change the plan.
